Version 1.6
Drop in your own images. The music cuts, tears and re-composes them.
This app flashes and strobes. It can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. You can turn down Flash and the Strobe settings in the controls.
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Add your own pictures; they stay on this device. The coloured tabs under each image set when it can appear: 1 start, 2 middle, 3 end of the track. Image change swaps one picture at a time in step with the tempo (1 bar to 1/128), on top of what kicks do; with the safe strobe limit on, the full-screen backdrop changes at most 3 times a second. Picture adjusts the final image like a monitor.
Pick a style. Character holds four controls that belong to the style you picked; Ornament sets the drawn shapes (thorns, geometry, light leaks) for any style. Save keeps the current look (style, sliders, colours, frames, font and randomness) as a preset in this browser; Export and Import move presets between devices. HD renders and records at 1.5x resolution: sharper, but heavier on phones. Kicks cut the panels, snares and hats tear the picture, and accents re-compose the page and show the next caption. The round Re-collage button shuffles the page and every Style and Strobe setting.
Choose what the visuals listen to. A file plays once from the start; the microphone and tab audio are live; the simple beat runs endlessly. React sets how hard the music hits the picture. The meter shows what the app hears. Any slider can follow a band: tap its dice, pick Follow Sub, Bass, Mids, Highs, Kick, Snare or Hit (any snare or hi-hat), and set how far it may go.
One caption per line; each accent shows the next line. Caption design picks how captions look; Style default follows the style. Play and Record always start from the first line, so captions land at the same moments in every take. Size runs from tiny to nearly full screen (pixels in a 720 px wide frame; the same look in every frame size and in HD), and text that does not fit shrinks. Web fonts need an internet connection; offline, a similar system font is used.
Panels are the framed pictures on top of the backdrop. Panels of a similar size never overlap. Frames range from clean lines to gritty xerox, torn paper and film. Panels gather around the middle of the frame, one always in the centre, and each covers at most a fifth of it. Drift slides the panels smoothly; Shake jolts them on every step, harder on kicks. Panels set to 0 leaves just the backdrop. Blink flashes each panel on for a step about every 2nd to 16th step (see Step rate: at 10 fps, 1/10 is once a second), panels taking turns. Blink rhythm loosens the timing: at 0 % it is steady; higher brings double blinks (mostly every 4th), held and skipped blinks, and kicks that flash a hidden panel. With the safe strobe limit on, blinking panels cover at most a quarter of the frame.
Each cut (a kick or an accent) can blink, flash white or go black for one frame interval. B&W and VHS change the texture (grain is in the Styles tab). Everything here starts at 0. The safe flash limit (also in the Images tab) keeps flashes to 3 per second.
Press + Lane to automate a control over the track. The grid follows the tempo, so check that the bar lines sit on the beat and fix the BPM or beat 1 if needed.
